BlowUp Art The Hague 2022

A spectacular walking route along the streets and squares around the Binnenhof in the Museum Quarter

Various inflatable artworks in The Hague

We recently wrote a blog about it, but Inflatable Art, or BlowUp art, is hot! Until October 13, you can walk the BlowUp Art route in The Hague. A spectacular walking route around the Binnenhof where a selection of internationally working artists, including some from The Hague, are responsible for the BlowUp Art. The temporary exhibition in the public space puts the familiar surroundings of the Museum Quarter in a new light.

The enormous BlowUps can be found at the Museum de Gevangenpoort, the shell path along the Hofvijver, the Koninklijke Schouwburg, the Schoorsteenvegerstraat and the statue of Willem van Oranje on the Plein. All objects are specially designed and produced for these locations. And Publi Air has had the honor of contributing to four of these Inflatable Art installations.

The Artists

All objects are specially made for the location by international and Dutch artists: Steve Messam, Marleen Sleeuwits, Adrianus Kundert, Larissa Ambachtsheer and Ludmila Rodrigues & Mike Rijnierse.

The Gevangenpoort by Steve Messam
Steve Messam (United Kingdom) is one of the artists who is making international furore with his gigantic ‘inflatables’. The bright green ‘Tunnel’ transforms the arch of the Gevangenpoort into a cheerfully bubbling embrace, which visitors can enter via a wooden bridge that has been specially constructed in the underpass. Publi Air is responsible for the execution of this inflatable art installation.

Koninklijke Schouwburg by Marleen Sleeuwits

Marleen Sleeuwits is a successful multidisciplinary artist. Her work is characterized by the fact that she tries to understand the characteristics of a location or place in order to then reinforce it by adding or placing new elements. And this time by means of inflatables. For days she cycled through The Hague for this installation to photograph columns. She adds that collection in all sizes and colors to this square in front of the Koninklijke Schouwburg. Together with Marleen, Publi Air brought this striking installation to life.

Sunset on The Hague, Hofvijver by Rodriques + Rijnierse

A cool installation that we previously installed for artist duo Mike Rijnierse and Ludmila Rodrigues in Delft. The Hague artist duo created a floating portrait of the sunset that invites visitors to walk around it and wonder what they are actually seeing while taking photos. Sunset on Delft is inspired by Vermeer’s painting ‘View of Delft’ that hangs in the Mauritshuis.

This installation can be seen in the Hofvijver from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 October from 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM.

Schoorsteenvegerstraat by Larissa Ambachtsheer

The young artist from The Hague, Larissa Ambachtsheer, is known for her artworks using a mixed technique of painting and photography. At the invitation of BinnenhofBuiten, she developed the intervention in the Schoorsteenvegersstraat (next to Pulchri Studio). This installation forms a striking colorful contrast with the stateliness of the Lange Voorhout. Publi Air is also jointly responsible for the execution here.
